Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) provides a number of ways for attorneys to get involved in helping low-income people with their legal problems. We provide training, mentoring, and legal support to our attorney volunteers and also receive one credit hour of CLE for every six hours of pro bono legal service, up to a maximum of six hours. Attorneys providing pro bono representation through ABLE are covered by our malpractice insurance. Attorneys, paralegals, law students, law graduates and other professionals can volunteer as much or as little time as they wish, covering civil legal topics that meet individual interests or abilities. Volunteer opportunities with ABLE include direct representation of clients, pro bono clinics, reduced fee referrals in rural counties, brief advice clinics, pro se legal clinics, community legal education, co-counseling arrangements, prisoner reentry legal clinics and warrant hearings, and corporate counsel brief advice phone appointments with clients. ABLE and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) are partner law firms.
